Caitlin Donaldson - One Too Many

Caitlin Donaldson needed to return to her location for re-shoots and pick up shots for her film. She asked me to be photographer. However, whilst I was there the owner used me as an opportunity to market/promote her property by taking photos of the B&B which wasn't what I came along for. However, that was over I went snap happy on the film shoot. It was a short shoot as we only had a couple of hours to film and Caitlin had asked me to shoot some 'natural' shots of her and Amy working as on previous shoots they felt they had to pose too often.

Gareth Roberts - The Last Walk

Gareth's shoot was a blast. The location was great and had a very creepy atmosphere and the building was derelict and had bird skeletons scattered on the floor. Having said that, there had been a halloween party there the night before. There was so much to photograph on this shoot, the place, the acting, the make-up, once again I felt confident and comfortable but that's not to say that this wasn't a challenging shoot to work on. As well as photographer I had to be a lighting assistant as the current lighting assistant had to leave the shoot early for personal issues. Although all I had to do was set up a few lights and move them around I still felt under pressure to be creative. I've learnt previously with lighting film to not directly light your subject matter but to aim the lighting else where in the room to give a creative effect. I found this to be more difficult then I probably should have. It was a great shoot and I felt I captured some good photos not only for behind the scenes, but for promotional material for the film also.

The actor who played "Young Daniel" in the film was great. I snapped up some great shots that could possibly be used for DVD covers and poster for the film.

Took a lot of photos of Kelly working through the shooting schedule and thanks to her, the shoot ran rather smoothly.

KJ Readman-Joce - Natural Flavouring

I'm not going to lie. I was slightly worried about KJ's shoot. Although there was a lot of food to photo I was worried about what else there would be to work on for me, that it would be too simple and that I wouldn't be needed for long. But I surprised how well it all went and how much work there was for me to do.

 I went a bit mad on the close-up shots of the food. Some of the meal actually looked pretty good! I couldn't stop experimenting with the photography that the meal had turned stone cold by the time I ran out of ideas

Overall, I really enjoyed KJ's shoot. It was a simple shoot, with one location and a chef. The chef fooled around quite a lot on set which was both annoying and amusing. 

Liz Mann - Forgotten Heroes

For Liz Mann's film shoot I was the stills photographer. We filmed in trenches in Suffolk, the same ones used in Downton Abbey! This shoot made me realise that photography is definitely more for me than film. I'm not exactly a people's person so when I'm allocated a certain role, I'm not great at working well with it. You need to know where to be at what time, what to do, how to do it all and it all just gets too stressful for me. Photography however, gives you so much freedom. Not only do you get to still be a part of the crew and join in with the banter but you can be anywhere, shoot whatever and I feel more confident in this role than any other. Forgotten Heroes was a great shoot to work on as there was so much material to work with and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors had seen some of the photos I had taken and were asking for my card or if I had a facebook page for my photography - I had neither. It was a great confidence boost as that was a first for me.
